What Are Salts?

Salts are chemical compounds made up of ions. They form when an acid reacts with a base, resulting in a neutralization reaction. The main characteristic of salts is that they consist of positive ions, called cations, and negative ions, known as anions. Common table salt, or sodium chloride, is a familiar example of a salt.
